Trojans win first game back from the holiday break

Olds, AB 

The SAIT Trojans won 3-2 to the Olds College Broncos on January 13, 2022 at the Olds Sportsplex. 

The Broncos had a strong start in the first period of play scoring the first goal scored by Shauna Johnson from Abby Webster at 6:35. The SAIT Trojans followed up with their first goal by Janey Wilson, unassisted at 14:25. Shots on goal at the end of the first 20 minutes were 21 for the Broncos and 7 for SAIT.  

The second period was quiet for the Trojans only seeing 7 shots on the Broncos net. Olds College had a more active second period with Ali Macaulay spending 4 minutes in the penalty box on separate calls, one for hooking and the second for body checking. Hailey Hoogkamp spent 2 minutes in the box for a body checking penalty. Shots at the end of the second was 30-14 for the Broncos. 

The final minutes of play were very exciting as SAIT took the lead with their second goal scored by Brittany McDonald at 11:11 from Nachtegaele and Ward. Which was closely followed by forward Cassie Hoogman headed to the penalty box on a body checking call at 12:19 allowing the Broncos Hailey Hoogkamp to score on the powerplay. Hoogkamp's goal was scored at 14:09 from Broadbent and Knisely. SAIT's final goal was also scored on a powerplay as Broncos Sydney Jack went to the box for holding at 15:10 and the Trojans' Reauna Blight scored at 16:36 from Wilson. Final shots at the end of play were 40 for the Broncos and 22 for the Trojans. 

The player of the game for the SAIT Trojans was number 1, Ali Kieren and the player of the game for the Olds College Broncos was number 21, Hailey Hoogkamp.

Olds College Broncos will be back at the Olds Sportsplex again on Thursday, January 20, 2022 as they take on Red Deer Polytechnic.
