Nineteen point advantage sees Broncos Women’s Basketball victorious over RDP
The Olds College Broncos women’s basketball team won over the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens with a score of 78-59 on Friday, February 18,2022 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The Olds College Broncos women's basketball team won over the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens with a score of 78-59 on Friday, February 18,2022 at the Ralph Klein Centre.
Broncos Athletics started the night by recognizing fifth year and graduation student-athlete Brooke Heggie. From there the Broncos started strong as a team against the Queens. Haylee-Jo Heggie scored 8 points of the teams 17 with Amelia Furst hot on the assists. The Queens Sadie Jeffries scored 6 points for the Queens with the score ending 17-13 for the Broncos.
The second quarter the Broncos we're still on a roll and working hard together to score 19 points in the 10 minutes. Again, Haylee-Jo Heggie was a large contributor to the team's scoring while Ali Taylor and Amelia Furst contributed at the net with rebounds. The RDP Queens worked hard but just didn't see those results on the scoreboard. At the end of the quarter the score was 36-22 for the Broncos.
Olds College had a slow start to the third period and struggled to find their rhythm and this quarter ended up being their lowest scoring quarter of the night. The Queens flipped and came into this quarter refreshed as a group. RDP's Amy Szymanek and Lauren France combined scored 12 of the team's points while Keanna Richards and Janai Hubert worked hard rebounding. Heading into the fourth and final quarter, the Broncos only lead by 5 points with a score of 47-42.
The final quarter was a huge scoring quarter for the Broncos with 31 points. Haylee-Jo Hessie, Mackenzie Hooson and Essie Pryor all helped out for a combined 21 points. The Broncos were able to play strong throughout the quarter and ended victorious over the Queens with a final score of 78-59.
The player of the game for the RDP Queens was number 6, Amy Szymanek and the player of the game for the Broncos was number 7, Haylee-Jo Heggie. Broncos Athletics also recognized numerous graduating student-athletes at the end of tonight's game. Tonight was the last regular season home game for the Broncos but you can catch them on the road next weekend as they travel to Briercrest.
