Broncos hold on to hot start as they beat the Rattlers 87-72

The Olds College Broncos Men's Basketball program took to the court in a neutral site game against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers at SAIT on Saturday.

The Broncos came out firing on all cylinders as they opened the game on an 11-0 run behind 3-point shots from Adrian Deere, Nick McKee, and Austin Nzige- Nyambok. The Rattlers finished off the last seven minutes of the first quarter out scoring the Broncos 19-12 with the Broncos still holding onto a 23-19 lead heading into the break. Nick McKee led the Broncos with eight points on the quarter while five Broncos pulled in a rebound and Tyreik Lennox and Austin Nzige-Nyambok chipped in with two assists.

 

The second quarter saw the Broncos extend their lead behind a full team effort as Nick McKee led the way with seven points in the quarter while Mobin Ali added six rebounds and two assists to lead the Broncos in those categories. Olds College went into halftime with a 12 point lead on the Rattlers with a score of 46-34.

 

Heading into the second half, the Broncos emphasized not starting slow as the third quarter has been the Achilles heel thus far this season and they did not disappoint as they further extended their lead to 18 behind the efforts of Adrian Deere's eight points and four rebounds in the quarter. Tyreik Lennox added another two assists to his well rounded statline in the third.

 

The fourth quarter saw the Rattlers fight back behind the efforts of Kieron Burgess and Fred Kabore who both chipped in with six points each. The Broncos lock down defense however proved too much for the Rattlers as they were held to shooting just 38.4% from the field as the Broncos strong defense led to their impressive offensive performance in shooting 53.8% from the field. The Broncos came away with the 87-72 victory in a well rounded team effort.

 

 

The player of the game for Medicine Hat College was #11 Kieron Burgess and the player of the game for the Broncos was number #33 Nick McKee. Catch Broncos Basketball's next home game on Friday February 18 at 8pm as they host the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings in a highly anticipated match that will have a heavy influence on playoff seeding.
