Broncos drop defensive contest 1-0 to NAIT
Spooner and Chenier astounding in tight Thursday evening contest
OLDS- A fantastic performance in net from Jaydlin Spooner wasn't enough for the Olds College Broncos (2-3) on Thursday night, dropping their third straight contest, this time to the NAIT Ooks (2-1) by the score of 1-0.
Alica Mihalikova scored her first of the year and goaltender Karlee Fetch picked up her second win in as many starts making 13 stops for her first shutout of the year.
The Ooks started the game auspiciously, as just 2:25 into the contest Brittney Savard made a brilliant cross-ice pass on the powerplay to Mihalikova who was able to put the puck into an open net to open the scoring.
From there, the Ooks were able to play a tight defensive game, as captain Carlin Boey played a silent (in the best possible way) game, breaking up nearly each and every Broncos rush that came her way.
The Broncos were stifled by special teams in the contest, unable to convert on any of their six powerplays in the game while taking six penalties of their own.
The stand out player for the Broncos in the contest was Tori Chenier, who had a few of the best Olds chances of the night, drawing a penalty on one, and managed to pick up player of the game honours post-game.
The NAIT Ooks selected goaltender Fetch as their player of the game.
The two teams will be back at it on Saturday in Edmonton, with puck drop slated for 6 P.M.
