Bio

Kurt Wootton has been involved in the sport of volleyball since the age of 11. Wootton brings a wealth of experience from across the country and is excited to join the men’s volleyball program as head coach for the Olds College Broncos. 

Woottoon capped his club career in Toronto with the Scarborough Solars VC, earning a silver medal at senior men’s nationals before heading to play at the University of Kings College in Halifax. From there, Wootton was recruited to play at Wilfrid Laurier University where he finished his collegiate career under the guidance of Shayne White. During his time at Wilfrid Laurier University, he obtained a degree in economics with a focus on political science. True to form, Kurt is still active as a player and will be representing Canada at the US Open as part of the Canada Masters Team in the spring of 2026. 

Wootton has most recently been coaching in Nova Scotia, securing two provincial championships and mentoring young athletes into post-secondary playing careers. He was also the first Dalhousie Agricultural College Coach hired in over 20 years. Wootton previously coached in Alberta, including coaching for Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club, winning two silver medals at provincial championships, along with a national silver medal. 

Outside of volleyball, Wootton is an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoys playing baseball, hockey, golf, squash, tennis, and skiing. Additionally, he is a dedicated reader with a strong passion for political issues and trends, both national and international. He enjoys spending time with his family, getting outdoors, and living an active lifestyle. Known for getting the most out of the athletes and teams he leads, Wootton returns to Alberta to further advance the success of the Olds College Broncos men’s volleyball team and push the program to the next level.
