On Saturday afternoon at the Ralph Klein Center at Olds College, the Medicine Hat Rattlers (13-9) managed to take down the Olds College Broncos (0-22) in straight sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-19).
Joao Pedro Freire was a star on the court for the Rattlers, making 11 kills. Meanwhile Haiden Hurtig led the Broncos with eight kills.
The Rattlers got off to a better start than the evening prior, scoring points early and often to take the first set 25-18.
The Rattlers started the second set well as well, as Justice Lesuk had his way with the Broncos in the set, making kills seemingly on command. To the Broncos credit, they began to claw back, bringing the lead down to just two down 17-15.
Frerie also did his job for the Rattlers, making a huge kill a few points leader to put the Rattlers up 21-17 as the Broncos took their second timeout of the set.
After exchanging points and a Broncos hit attempt sailing long, the Rattlers converted on a set point as a terrific back row hit from Brenan Kuffert connected and the Rattlers took the set 25-18.
The Broncos began the third set in control, jumping ahead to a 13-10 lead early. The Rattlers though would win four of the next six to get within one point.
After exchanged points, a missed hit from Jesse Stoddart would give the Rattlers an 18-17 lead. The Rattlers took seven of the remaining nice points to take the third set 25-19.
The Broncos also recognizes senior Tarren Dion on Saturday afternoon. Dion graduates from Olds having played two full seasons with the Broncos.
