Broncos take set, but ultimately drop match to Kings

On January 6 in Olds, the Red Deer College Kings (9-5) took down the Olds College Broncos (0-16) in four sets (25-22, 23-25, 25-10, 25-16).

Parker Biletsky led the visiting Kings with six kills while first year Haiden Hurtig led the Broncos with 10.

The Broncos came out strong in the first set, winning a few highly contested points to knot the game at eight early.

The Kings would takeover though, going on a run to take a 21-16 lead, forcing a timeout from the Broncos. A few points later the Kings would take the set, 25-22.

The Broncos came out flying in the second set, taking a 10-8 lead as the Kings took their first timeout of the contest.

Out of the timeout the Broncos won six of the next seven points to take a 16-9 lead, forcing another Kings timeout.

The Kings began to rally out of the break though, claiming eight of the next 12 points as the Broncos led 20-17.

The Kings would keep things competitive, winning four of six out of the timeout to get within one point. That would be as close as they would come, as the Broncos would take the final point to knot the game at one set.

After a close start to the third set, the Kings would win nine straight points to take a 16-6 lead. The Kings would close out the Broncos soon after, winning 25-10.

The Kings would close out the Broncos in the final set, taking it 25-16.

The Broncos will travel to Calgary next weekend for a battle with Ambrose while the Kings return home to host SAIT.
