On January 5, the Red Deer College Kings (8-5) won their first game of 2018, knocking off the Olds College Broncos (0-15) in straight sets (25-15, 25-13, 25-9).
Hamish Hazelden led the charge for the Kings, making nine kills. Meanwhile Tyson Deschene led the Broncos with eight.
The Kings took advantage of a few early Broncos miscues, taking a 10-5 lead forcing the Broncos first timeout of the game.
The Broncos wouldn't climb out of the hole, dropping the first set 25-16.
The Kings's strong play would continue in the second set, outplaying Olds at the front of the net. After an evenly played first half, the Kings would assert their dominance in the second half, winning 11 of 13 points to take a 25-13 win.
The Kings would go on to take seven of the first nine points in the third set, as the Broncos were unable to match the power of the Kings.
After all was said and done, the Kings took the final set 25-9 to win the match.
The two teams will face-off for a rematch tomorrow evening, with first serve slated for 8 P.M.
